Buyers hold cartridges up to the light and draw conclusions from colour. It does carry some information, but far less than it appears to, and the common interpretations are mostly wrong.

Extraction sets the starting colour

Distillate is refined heavily and typically comes out pale — light gold to nearly clear. Live resin retains more plant material and runs darker, often amber. Solventless rosin varies from blonde to deep gold depending on input material and press conditions.

So a dark noir live resin or nature's heritage live resin product is not worse than a pale distillate. It is a different process, and the colour is describing the method.

Age darkens everything

Oxidation progressively darkens cannabis oil. A product that has darkened noticeably since purchase has aged, which is normal and expected.

This is the one genuinely useful colour signal, and it only works as a comparison of the same product over time — not against another product.

Why "clear means clean" is backwards

Clarity indicates heavy refinement, which means more of the plant was removed. Buyers who read pale as pure are reading a signal that also means less terpene content.

The inverse assumption — dark means contaminated — is equally unfounded. A bountiful farms carts, juiced carts or g pen carts listing's colour tells you about processing, not purity.

Viscosity is more informative than colour

Tilt the cartridge and watch the bubble travel. Thick, slow movement is consistent with diamond and live resin fills. Thin, fast movement in something sold as a diamond fill is a genuine inconsistency worth questioning.

This is the visual check actually worth doing, and it takes a second.

Cloudiness and crystallisation

Some products cloud or crystallise as cannabinoids come out of solution, particularly in cold conditions or with high-THCa content. It is a physical change rather than spoilage, and warming to room temperature usually reverses it.

Persistent separation into distinct layers is different and worth asking about.

What to look at instead

Extract type, packaging date, batch number and published testing. All four are on paper and all four are more informative than anything visible through glass.

A head space weed, floracal weed, just flower weed, sapura carts or dice carts listing is assessed properly from its documentation, and colour is at best a weak confirmation of what the documentation already said.
